LOL. John Wayne and my grandfather, who was much like John Wayne, were some of my idols. My grandfather couldn’t say “Democrat” without prefacing it with “gawd damned.”
Every time that I’d bring up John Wayne, my grandfather father would say that Wayne is a phony because he accepts money from the government not to grow potatoes on his farm.

I alway shake my head when someone mentions a movie star (new or old) as a hero or role model. Short of the likes of Jimmy Stewart and those in his vein…people come to admire the “character” that John Wayne or others played. It would be more accurate to refer to the writer or director of the particular film.

The movie stars of the 1940’s and 50’s are really nothing too far removed from today’s social media stars.

Better to keep our heroes personal.
