Well, Steyer obviously sees himself as above scrutiny because he never bothered to obtain the required permit to rent out the house. He's facing a $20k fine.

I am guessing Steyer didn't even know about the rule. I suspect this will quietly disappear. These type of rules are enacted to keep Airbnb type operations out of residential neighborhoods, especially rich neighborhoods.
