It makes me think of superstar at Loyola Marymount, Hank Gathers, who collapsed on the court and died at 23. He had led the nation in both scoring and rebounding — an amazing 6’7” stud. Heart condition.

I remember that.

JR Richard had heart issues.

This guy today, he was suspended, transferred, didn’t get drafted.

These days high-school and college sports physicals look very closely at athletes’ hearts.

Even 12 years ago our pediatrician “heard” something while listening to my daughter’s heart during her sports physical for track.

The Doc immediately referred us to a cardiologist for an exam that same day. The cardiologist sat in with us during the sonogram.

Ultimately it was declared no issue.

Living through that is why I have doubt when contemporary young athletes “die suddenly” from unknown heart conditions.

you remember Hank Gaithers and so do I because it was RARE, very RARE, for young people to drop dead like that....

now,its happening seemingly all the time...
