You are the one having it both ways. Statement against interest works like this. I claim I didn't rob a bank and give an alibi. Then I make a statement that shows that my alibi is false. My statement is now admissible evidence that I committed the crime. Same idea with the NY times. I am not relying on the NY Times for proof. I am relying on the fact that after a couple of years of being a propogandist for your side they admitted things aren't going so well.
It's evidence that whatever you warmongering fools are up to you are a bunch of liars. That's all. That's enough.
