I doubt that any of the “educators” at the newly renamed school bothered to read Minnie Minoso’s biography. He expressed vehemently anti-communist and anti-Castro opinions in the book. Minoso invested some of his baseball earnings in Cuban real estate, primarily apartment buildings which were to be managed by one of his siblings. After the revolution, Fidel Castro confiscated the buildings.
By the way, the third listed school to renamed was “Enrico Tonti” elementary. Tonti was a French explorer who helped La Salle survey North America, including the Mississippi River Valley, the Great Lakes, and present day Canada. Tonti’s name has been removed from the school which was renamed (in Spanish) for the Monarch butterfly.
