'Blind Side' Tuohy family members push back against NFL star Michael Oher's claims

Sean Tuohy, Jr. whose family was the subject of the hit film "The Blind Side," is responding...

...Tuohy said Oher sent messages to family group texts in 2020 and 2021 with statements such as "'If you guys give me this much, then I won’t go public..."

...Sean Tuohy, Sr. also responded Monday...that the family contacted lawyers at the time "who had told us that we couldn’t adopt over the age of 18," and "The only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship."

The elder Tuohy also said that everyone "got an equal share, including Michael" in the profits from "The Blind Side."

Their responses come after court records filed by Oher state that Oher's adoption was a "lie" and that "Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves" at Oher's "expense."

The family did say they adopted him. It’s on her website and she said it in interviews promoting her book.

Like most ex-NFL players, I imagine Oher is bankrupt

That’s hardly surprising. They looked into adopting him in order to help him getting in to College & satisfying the NCAA. They were informed by attorneys that an 18 year old could not be adopted ( at that time) in their State. A legal conservatorship was the only way to accomplish what they all wanted to happen. Other’s birth mother was involved and present in court.

At that time, the NFL was hardly guaranteed. The biggest prize at that time was a college education and a shot at the NFL. There were a million ways that that could never happen. There were no visions of a best selling novel or big screen movie. There was just a family who was already ridiculously wealthy putting themselves out there for someone. At that time, there was no upside to them beyond doing a good thing for someone they cared about and arguably a good thing for their Alma Mater. Again no guarantee if even that. Just the possibility.

This whole thing is revisionist hindsight and racial grievance shakedown. Oher should be ashamed of himself. But he won’t be.

Stop helping the blacks.
No other race in America has been assisted and coddled and still can’t get their act together.
F ‘em. Send all the blacks who hate America and don’t want to assimilate to Africa.

I’m way ahead of you. I was born in Philly and went to public school in Wilmington DE.

Diversity is a failure. Homogeneous societies thrive, specifically non tan ones.

It is easy to check Tennessee law. Adult adoptions are allowed. So Tuohy is lying.

I have never thought that conservatives might be racist until I read the reactions to this story on FR. After all, we all love Clarence Thomas and Thomas Sowell. But the common attitude here that the big black football player must be lying and the white people must be telling the truth has shocked and dismayed me.

the article stated:

How, from that statement, can you make the bald assertion Tuohy is lying? If that is what his lawyers told him, then you assume he is lying about what his lawyers told him?

Were those laws on the books when the actions were taken?

BTW, I don't like Clarence T or Thomas S because they're black. And perhaps folks don't dislike these recent events because Oher is black. I know that has nothing to do with me. I dislike it when ungratefulness is shown by anyone whether black, white, or magenta. :)

The Tuohys will get a chance to defend themselves in court.

It’s always possible that Tennessee law for adopting adults has changed or that all of their lawyers back then were incompetent. It’s just not at all the most likely possibility.

And why would anyone with good motives seek to be conservator of a competent adult? There may be some good reason I haven’t heard of yet.

The Tuohys let the whole country think they had adopted Michael Oher. Why did they do that? No one likes being lied to, including me.

I like Thomas and Sowell because they are great conservatives, not because they are black men. One of my complaints about President Trump is his failure to give the Medal of Freedom to Thomas Sowell, who turned 90 during his presidency.

Indeed.

Something else I read may shed light on this...that makes me think the Tuohay family is being targeted.

I didn’t know the family was already independently wealthy...they owned like 100 fast food franchises—Taco Bell, KFC. etc. Eventually sold them for $200,000,000.

They didn’t NEED the (relatively) lower income Michael would’ve brought to the table.

I guess we’ll see...but I am prone to think this “I am a victim!” cry by Oher.

Yes, Michael Oher is targeting them because the Tuohys lied about adopting him, and also tricked him into agreeing to an apparently unwarranted conservatorship. It will be interesting to see what comes out in the trial.

Even after earning millions in the NFL, Oher is probably broke and needing money, so he is a willing pawn for the race baiters.

Typically, athletes are broke after they retire. Even after earning millions. So Michael Oher may need money.
