I am not a Hunter, but I assume the reason for the bigger calibers is for “trail use.”

“ Tell me again how the 9mm and “ballistics technology” are better than a caliber beginning with a four.”

Tell me again about how in physical combat with lethal weapons XX is as good as XY.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to get some range training with a police instructor. The only calibers I own start with 3 (this includes the 9mm).

A bunch of other guys were there, let’s say “dressed to impress” with all kinds of tacticool stuff and some very pretty things that start with 4.

Once we moved on to movement and stress drills, those things that started with 4 were spraying lead all over the place.

My little eurofag peashooter (Italian, no less) shot their asses off.

I used the 350 pound predator example to make the point that people who do handgun hunting or just carry a trail gun that has to deal with a 350 lb black bear or mountain lion carry more than a 9mm.

So my thinking is, if I am a police officer having to incapacitate a 350 pound “scholar” hopped up on dope, I want more than 9mm.

I’ve taken 18 days of training from some of the best instructors in the US. Every single one stressed, aside from safety, was marksmanship and knowledge of the weapon clearing malfunctions. If the weapon hiccups, get it back into action. Every loaded mag had a dummy round. You learn, “tap, rack, bang” drills real fast and fast mag changes.

Clint Smith clearing malfunctions.

The “carpenter” is nuts. He tried to strip during his arraignment.
