The Washington Post conducted a nationwide poll of Native Americans about 10 years ago (maybe more) about the Redskins name. 90% of the Native Americans either approved of the name, or didn’t care.
The Post staff admitted to being shocked by the results. Of course, the fact nobody outside of D.C. cared about the issue wasn’t suprising, it just showed Post staffers were isolated from the real world.
Anyway, ignoring the results, white libs continued their crusade against the Redskin name, basically telling Native Americans to sit down and shut up.
My suggestion: call them the Skins, which is what people called them anyway.
I was up in Vermont at a museum last week, and there was an exhibit of various folk art items, one of them was a beautiful carved wooden bust of a Native American warrior.
It had extremely handsome features that were not in any way caucasian...they were fully Native American.
The placard said it was an example of racist portrayals of American Indians that were common for that time.
I was astonished. I could not see a damn thing racist about it except the card itself, which was purporting to be able to judge on behalf on Native Americans what was racist and what was not.
I would defy them to find a single Native American who failed to find that portrayal both authentic and flattering.

I used to care about that issue and despised those who caved to the mob and changed the team’s name. But after thinking about the “thug” issue and a few other unlikable aspects of the NFL I lost Interest. I remember attending games at the old Griffith Stadium and was thrilled to witness the great Sammy Baugh in action.
