The expletives in Lil Tay's social media videos and her imitations of so-called gangster rappers -- in one of which she pretends to use drugs and in another, she uses the n-word -- prompted controversy and questions about the potential exploitation of children on social media.

Canadian girl, now 14, moved to Los Angeles when she NINE years old, and gained NATIONAL ATTENTION for her CONTROVERSIAL videos, which flaunted an EXTRAVAGANT LIFESTYLE and went viral on social media.
My God. Little girls that age should be in school and and doing little girl things. Not that horrendous crap she was doing. What a lost innocence.
And to think just 25 years ago we were dreaming of the "Information Superhighway" bringing the Library of Congress and fine art into our homes.

The statement also announced that Lil Tay's brother, Jason Tian, also died and that their deaths are under investigation.
I assume her brother was of a similar age. Weird...and devastating for their parents.

Smart phones and social media have changed our children's upbringings incredibly (and negatively). We're in the midst of this change so it's hard to recognize the enormity of the change, but I doubt there's ever been this big a societal change in such a short amount of time in human history.
