Guitarist-songwriter-singer Robbie Robertson, who led the Canadian-American group the Band to rock prominence in the 1970s and worked extensively with Bob Dylan and Martin Scorsese, has died. He was 80.
According to an announcement from his management, Robertson died Wednesday in Los Angeles after a long illness.
In a statement, Robertson’s manager of 34 years, Jared Levine, said “Robbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, including his wife, Janet, his ex-wife, Dominique, her partner Nicholas, and his children Alexandra, Sebastian, Delphine, and Delphine’s partner Kenny. He is also survived by his grandchildren Angelica, Donovan, Dominic, Gabriel and Seraphina. Robertson recently completed his fourteenth film music project with frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Six Nations of the Grand River to support a new Woodland Cultural Center.”

It’s only a tragedy if you are 79.

Rock’n Ronnie Hawkins told the ‘Band’ that he couldn’t pay them much... But he did promise them that they’d ‘get more p*ssy than Frank Sinatra’... And Frank was getting a very large share of it back in those days.

Piano player Rich Manuel made it to age 42. I do believe he said it in The Last Waltz “Why do you think we’ve been on the road?” It had to do with the women. The whole theater laughed. Turned out it wasn’t so funny. The fame was gone.

Lol, yeah, I remember the comment about women. sex and getting more than Frank Sinatra. Ronnie Hawkins understood who he was talking to. Promising 16 and 18 year old guys all the girls and sex they could stand was a better selling point than money at their age.

Sad news. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is absolutely one of my all-time favorites, and I always thought it ironic that this band of almost all Canadians (except for Levon Helm) could do such an American song in such an iconic American way. RIP Robbie Robertson. Thanks for the music.

That sexy blonde is Maria McKee of Lone Justice and “Show Me Heaven” fame.
Robertson dated her at the time..a mere 20 year age difference.

Of course he wasn’t really the leader. He did write all their best-loved songs, though.

A friend of mine described Robertson's playing style as 'falling off the stage'.
I believe he also did the soundtrack for Scent of a Woman (not a Scorsese flick). Regardless of what you think of the flick the score was fabulous.

LOL, reminds me of one of my all-time favorite music lyrics:
Cause what the world needs now
Is a new Frank Sinatra
So I can get you in bed.
Cause what the world needs now
Is another folk singer
Like I need a hole in my head
