If you plan to go to the hospital for a procedure, in many non-communist localities, you and your relatives can give blood for your procedure and not take a chance with blood from the wild.
I did autologous donation before hip replacement surgery. Turns out I didn’t need it. Then they discarded it. I thought they’d add it to the blood bank but they wouldn’t do that. I’m sure that at that time my blood was much better than most. (Now I’m on Eliquis daily, so that’s a problem for donating.)
