I recall once in shop class a kid drove a nail thru his hand. He yanked it out. They made him go get medical help

H.S. Junior year, we had just gotten our class rings. A class mate and friend of mine was going out the door of English class, he jumped up and slapped the over head door jamb and there was a screw head sticking out, far enough to hang him by his brand new class ring. He was hanging about a foot off the floor, screaming like a banshee, another class mate and I lifted him up enough so he could free himself.
He was taken for medical help with a broken finger and stitches to the finger. That was 1962, he’s still living and we’re still friends at 78 years old. He has a stiff ring finger, right hand with a scar on it to this day.
Your friend was lucky. I worked with a guy who had no ring finger on his left hand, not even a stump. He fell when jumping down off a dozer and his wedding ring got caught on the handrail. Stripped all the flesh off the finger.
So many stories, so little time.
Anyone that is 60 or older grew up in a society where no one ever questioned the sex or gender of another person, where small cuts, bruises, minor broken bones were taken in stride.
Without the benefit/curse of smart phones, young folks went outside and participated in a physical activity, and in doing so, got hurt and grew stronger.
The youth today, because of both technology and lack of religion in the home, are growing up without any belief in right/wrong and have no moral compass.
FReepers look at trans and see sinners, many youth see something that is not only acceptable, but superior.
With no concrete, absolute truth to accept, then there is no "right way" so make up the rules that please you, and anything goes.
So sad.
