They went through many musicians to find their sound in the studio. They pickiness is legendary. The Royal Scam is my favorite of all their albums. Kid Charlemagne is a masterpiece, imho.
Another of my favorites is “Here At The Western World”, which never made it onto an album, I think it was recorded for The Royal Scam.
The great Larry Carlton played lead and arranged ~ half the songs on Royal Scam....sometimes called SD's "Guitar Album".
His solo on "Kid Charlemagne" is awesome...but his opening lead on "Don't Take Me Alive" is even better. He also played lead on "The Royal Scam" track and Everything You Did".
The SD catalogue (thru Gaucho) is being remastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman on "regular" vinyl, UHQR vinyl ($150), CD and 24-bit Digital Download.
The first 3 remastered albums have been released. Except for Aja and Gaucho, all remasters will be sourced from the original master tapes.
