The mother of an autistic teenager is suing her local movie theater, claiming her son was discriminated against when staff forced them to leave the New Jersey venue after she allowed him to use the women's restroom.
Christine Gallinaro and her 15-year-old son, John, had tickets to see Disney's Elemental on June 16 at the Cinemark Theater in Hazlet, New Jersey.
As the previews for other films rolled, Gallinaro brought her son into the women's bathroom - as there were no family restrooms at the theater, her suit stated.
When the boy was washing his hands, Gallinaro claimed the theater manager stormed into the bathroom and harassed her son, demanding that they leave, and even calling the local police on them.
Gallinaro now argued the movie theater violated the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, claiming the employees 'intentionally or recklessly committed acts or omissions producing emotional distress' to the teenager.
According to the Gallinaros, John needs supervision in the bathroom.
'My son can, to a certain degree, function, but he needs supervision due to his motor-planning skills and spatial awareness,' Christine told Today.com.
She said she would normally have her husband accompany John into a public men's bathroom, but when he is not there — and there is no family restroom available — Gallinaro escorts the teenager into the women's room.
'Nobody has ever given me a hard time about it because I am with him the whole time,' Christine claimed.
During the trip to the movies, when she brought John into the bathroom, there were other women in the restroom, but they all seemed to understand the situation.
'Right away, they see he's with me. They pick up why he's in the bathroom with me,' Gallinaro told NJ.com, noting that one woman was even 'looking at me, smiling.'

You all look at pics of the kid, this is not a 5 year old child this is a kid almost bigger than her!
Everyone wants to allow men in the women's bathroom for one reason or another.
NO JUST NO
A smart person would take him into the men’s room as men would care far less about seeing a mother helping her special needs son than that same teen being in the women’s room.
A lot of places have a family restroom for these kind of situations….say dad is taking his young daughter out to the movies
Agreed
Her son is autistic. That covers a range of disability that is very wide
The way I feel now is she should have thought a head and had her husband come with her.
I am at my wits end with this whole thing of men in women’s private spaces that even this is too much. I would not stop to ask or think “is he special needs”? I’d just figure he’s one of those pretending to be trans and trying to invade our space.
Him having autism does not help at all considering the majoring of trans people are autistic.
That is why I want him out of there and in the men’s room period. Sorry, not sorry.
What Cinemark doesn’t have a family restroom?
see my post 7
yes I know a lot of places have a “family” or “unisex” bathroom but this place did not have that.
it would seem this one does not and the mom for what ever reason did not bring dad along to take him to the men’s bathroom.
This is not a 5 year old like I said, this kid is as tall as she is.
I am still dubious of the claim it has no family bathroom.
I haven’t been in a movie theater built in the last 25 years that did not have one.
Seems most cinemas today have them, you are correct.
however when I googled it I found this.
Most locations have a family restroom. Features vary by location. Visit cinemark.com to contact your theatre location. Mar 11, 2015
Apparently, this place did not.
This being said, I think there can be some leeway, some reasonable judgment, for parents with special-needs children.
I mean, it's not like we're talking about some horny, drooling tranny with a wig and a hard-on leering at little girls here.
Well, there's "I'm neurodivergent! I'm special! Look at me!" and then there's severe autism.
Looking at this kid's pic, I'd say he's the latter.
There should be a family or unisex bathroom for them.
If we make exceptions for this then the trannies will want exceptions. Plus like I said before the majority of the trannies are autistic as well so what is the difference? One wears a dress, one does not.
No men in the women’s bathroom period. Special needs or not that child is too old.
Totally idiotic response by the theater staff.
And to draw parallels to the trans BS is equally idiotic.
Why are men always using the women’s restroom WHY didn’t the mom take the son into the men’s restroom men don’t seem to mind women in their restroom the same way women mind!! When I was younger and out partying can’t even count how many time I used the men’s room because of the damn line at the ladies room, men could have cared less that I was in there they didn’t even bat an eye!
The mom might have said "I would feel uncomfortable going into the men's room", which is kind of the point here.
Or she may just be a Leftist doing it as a ploy.
My thoughts exactly.
” When I was younger and out partying can’t even count how many time I used the men’s room because of the damn line at the ladies room, men could have cared less that I was in there they didn’t even bat an eye!”
Never mind a party it’s that way at a movie theater!!! Well really everywhere. The line is all the way to freaking Canada!!! Take him to the mens’ room and let us freaking pee!
