Why do that work when McDonald’s invented the Filet O’Fish?
Long ago changed from a weird name fish to “wild-caught Alaska Pollock for our Filet-O-Fish® sandwich in the U.S., which is 100% sourced from sustainable fisheries.”
Historical note:
Once was halibut. “McDonald’s ultimately swapped it out for cod before its release because it ended up being cheaper, but it wasn’t an easy decision because Kroc didn’t want customers to negatively associate the Filet-O-Fish with cod liver oil.”
For some unknowable reason, that simple Filet O Fish sandwich from McD’s is very good. I can’t explain it. Even though they have shrunk the filet down a wee bit over the years.
I always take mine w/no cheese. Trump likes them too.
Kroc’s aversion to using anything related to Cod Liver Oil is believeable, because back then; late 50’s thru 60’s, Cod Liver Oil was often given to kids to ‘scare the germs away’.
Old people took that and/or Geritol.
i was told that the reason McDonald’s switched from halibut to exclusively cod was so customers wouldn’t confuse a cod piece for the halibut.
I much prefer halibut to cod. I had a ‘basket-of-but’ at a Skippers takeout some years ago during a business trip in WA. It was fresh and deep fried with new oil. It was the best halibut I ever had.
Fresh, fast food halibut. That’s something they only have in Pac NW.
If McD’s could bring that back I would eat there weekly.
