Don’t touch armadillos
Will we finally get a movie production of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever, now?
Wild armadillo blood and feces coming in direct contact with an open cut or sore can transmit the bacteria. It’s rare in the animal and even then a healthy person’s immune system would take care of it. It tends to happen among the malnourished south of the border where they eat armadillos and come in contact with their blood. They are probably bringing it in.
I remember when there were none in the North Arkansas-Oklahoma area. Saw my first one dead on the highway south of the Arkansas River in 1970.
Now they are everywhere including my place. Once known as “Hoover Hogs.”
