Croatia donates €1 million for mine clearance of Ukrainian agricultural lands

The Croatian government has donated €1 million for humanitarian mine clearance of Ukrainian agricultural land to help Ukrainian farmers resume their work in the regions most affected by explosive remnants of war.

At the meeting Gordan Grlić Radman, Foreign Minister of Croatia, and Matthew Hollingworth, WFP Country Director in Ukraine, signed a memorandum that provides for the examination of agricultural land of Ukraine, its demining and safe restoring of food production.
“The Government of Croatia donated €1 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today to help farmers and food producers resume work in regions most affected by explosive remnants of war. This is Croatia’s largest ever donation to the UN World Food Programme,” the statement reads.
“We are deeply grateful for this initiative. Farmers of Kharkiv, Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts will be the first ones to join the programme.
We hope that in a year we will be able to extend the programme, and at the same time we as a government are working to strengthen the capabilities of our governmental institutions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the institutions of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. By the end of the year we plan to increase the number of bomb disposal experts and vehicles by at least two times, and continue to demine the liberated territories, agricultural land and forests,” Svyrydenko commented.
