I’m no military expert, but it just seems common sense that if you’re the weaker combatant, you don’t “show off” your weapons anywhere but in battle. What’s the point? How is it helpful to let the world know what you’ve got?

It's Information Warfare.

Not saying it's the case here, but IW is useful when a weapon system's bark is worse than its bite. Also works to demonstrate a capability that you want the world to notice. It's especially useful for the weaker side because it's meant to show that they're "still in the fight", and thus worthy of support by their allies and fear by their enemies.

The US uses IW in many ways. For example, in a buildup to military action, press releases will focus on seemingly every step of the buildup. The arrival of a Carrier Battle Group, B-2s forward deploying, arrival of well-known combat units like the 82nd Airborne, etc. It may seem monotonous, or even a breach of OPSEC to see it play out in the news, but it's intended to weaken the resolve of an opponent.

Our military even has courses on Information Warfare.

Yes, I have to admit you’re right.

The “elephant walk” videos of scores of F-22s and AC-130s come to mind immediately.
