Makani Kai Air had already gotten itself in hot water with the authorities, having been charged with flying unauthorized commercial routes. They stood to have to pay ~$600k in fines, but when the fines were finally adjudicated (post-ditching, no less!), the FAA powers that be allowed that number "somehow" to turn into ~$40k!
The engine on the craft that day (and the months before) was a Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6-140a. So Chrysler was not involved in the Fuddy Hoax at all.
