You might be better to consider this a development, within a development, within a development. Whoever the crew is that stood in the lab....probably were given some test version of something that has nothing to do with Covid. They never asked questions, just assuming people were honest with them. You probably will never know the full ‘deal’.
You should read the patents. Covid was merely the excuse.

We will never know what happened down to the final detail. But as we peel back the layers (as with an onion) we will see all sorts of things that were decided/done on-the-fly because of some forced urgency.
And money motivation is going to be at every level (layer) and at the core.
It would be interesting if all the profits from misdeeds could be identified and clawed back. Interesting indeed.
Consider how the Gulf Horizon disaster was handled and how BP was made to pay such enormous amounts of money. It did not destroy BP, regardless of whether it should have, or not.
My point is that it is possible to go after Big Pharma (haha - “BP” - get it?) and all the evil actors up and down the food chain.
