I used to think this way, but I love soccer/football now. It's a world-wide sport that transcends politics - even though there are plenty who try to use soccer politically. The athletic prowess involved is very impressive, and if you followed it you would see this. Also, despite the socialism of Europe etc. it is a highly capitalistic sport.

Don't throw the sport under the bus just because of some of the jerks who either play or follow it. I am very upset with the antics of some on the American Women's World Cup team. That said, there are plenty of players, owners, and coaches in traditional American sports who disrespect our nation and what it stands for.

This reads right like out of a marketing campaign.

Kickball doesn't "transcend politics" when it IS politics instead of a sport.

The athletic prowess of the women's teams are no more impressive than a random team of 14-year old boys.

It is not a "capitalistic" sport "despite socialism". It's a good example of socialism.
-Taxpayers are forced to fund it.
-Losing teams don't fold out of the league.
-The women are paid a far higher percentage of what they bring in compared to the men and that pay increase is paid for by the fans of the men's teams.

Actually, it's real football, not the fat-ball played in the NFL where they have ‘breathers’ after every down, mostly play in only one direction (few playing defense and offense) and have official time-outs and television time-outs. Real football (soccer) has no time outs, and many players play for 90 minutes - running most of the time. It's a tough sport. You will NEVER see a soccer player with their fat unhealthy gut hanging over their belt like you do routinely in the National Fat League.

Also, in America where pinheaded liberals think anything ‘European’ is superior to America, there are those a**h**es who only like soccer because it's not American. That's NOT how it is in the rest of the world. Soccer is BIG money, and is not taxpayer funded in the vast majority of the world.

Finally, as opposed to American sports, most soccer leagues in Europe have relegation. The three teams that finish last in the league are demoted to a lower league and lose money. They don't get ‘the top draft pick’ like the losing teams in the US. They essentially get kicked out of the league and have to fight like crazy to get promoted back up to the league. Some teams fight for decades to get back up.
