The age limit for being in the mobilization reserve has been increased in Russia by five years. From now on, the maximum age is 65 years old for senior officers, 60 for junior officers, and 55 for privates and warrant officers. Besides that, men can now be drafted into the Russian army for compulsory service until they are 30 years old, which is 3 years more than before Putin signed this new law on July 24th. All this will allow the Kremlin to send as many people as possible to the war against Ukraine, experts believe. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address said that more than 30 missiles were shot down during missile attack on July 26 alone. ‘It is very important that the audacity of this attack was destroyed,’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy underlined. The Russian authorities detained at least 13 Crimean Tatars under the building of the “Supreme Court of Crimea” in Russian-occupied Simferopol. They came to the hearing in regards to the appeal in the case of Nariman Dzhelyal and the Akhtemov brothers; among the detainees is journalist Lutfie Zudieva.

On Thursday morning, at least 13 people (10 men and three women) were detained near the “Supreme Court of Crimea”. The detainees came to support Nariman Dzhelyal, Asan Akhtemov and Aziz Akhtemov. Among them were both parents of Aziz Akhtemov and two journalists.
Amongst the detainees are: Akhtemova Zarema, Akhtemov Eskender, Ablyamitov Kerim, Useinov Rustem, Kurnosov Rustem, Akhtemov Server, Useinova Seyara, Teifuk Mansur, Abdurakhmanov Nariman, Mustafa Mustafayev, Dzhelyalov Ruslan, as well as journalist Lutfie Zudieva and citizen journalist Ibragimov Kulamet.
The detainees were put on a bus and taken to the Zaliznychnyi police station for identification. Listeners, including relatives of the defendants, were not allowed into the court.
According to Russian security officials, the reason for the detention was a report to the emergency service 102 on a “violation of public law and order”.
Krymskii dyskurs writes that group gatherings of Crimean Tatars are now often reported in Crimea when there are more than three participants.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited Dnipro in southeastern Ukraine on Thursday (July 27) to discuss the situation on the battlefield, supplies for troops and how to strengthen air defences. “We started the working day in Dnipro,” Zelenskiy said on the Telegram messaging app under video footage of him leading a meeting with military commanders and government officials. “As always, we pay close attention to the supply of ammunition to our troops. The efficiency of using the existing air defence systems and reinforcing the sky shield, taking into account supplies from partners,” he said.
The Dnipropetrovsk region, an important economic centre in southeastern Ukraine, is not far from the front line and borders Kherson in the south, Donetsk region in the east, and further north Kharkiv region. Dnipro city, capital of the region, had a pre-war population of about 1 million people, and has become a logistical and humanitarian hub for Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion on Feb 24, 2022.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has posted a video showing the Ukrainian military announcing that they have liberated the village of Staromaiorske in Donetsk Oblast.

During his working visit to Odesa Oblast on 27 July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy inspected the damage to the Transfiguration Cathedral caused by the recent massive Russian bombardment.

DETAILS: Zelenskyy was told about the scale of the damage to the cathedral and its current state.
The president was informed that experts are currently working to determine the possibilities of rebuilding the structure.
Foreign partners have shown their readiness to join the rebuilding of the Transfiguration Cathedral.
FOR REFRENCE: This is the largest Orthodox Church in Odesa, founded in 1795 and consecrated in 1808. In 1936, it was completely destroyed by the Bolsheviks. The cathedral was rebuilt in 1999-2011 on the site of its destroyed predecessor.
BACKGROUND: On 23 July 2023, due to a criminal Russian missile attack on the civilian infrastructure and historical centre of Odesa, this cathedral suffered significant damage. The altar was completely destroyed, and the supporting structure of the building was damaged.

Ukraine’s Defense Forces advance on 2 fronts – General Staff report

Over the course of the past day, Ukraine’s Defense Forces continued to conduct offensive operations on the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts and are consolidating recently captured positions.

The General Staff reported that Russian occupation forces deployed two Kalibr cruise missiles to carry out an attack on Odesa’s port infrastructure and launched eight Shahed attack drones on targets elsewhere in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Air Force destroyed all eight Russian attack drones.
Russian forces carried out a total of 27 airstrikes over the course of the past day and deployed multiple-launch rocket systems in over 30 further attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements. There were civilian casualties and fatalities, and port infrastructure and residential buildings in the south of Ukraine were damaged.
There is a very high ongoing threat of further Russian missile and air strikes across Ukraine.
Russian and Ukrainian forces clashed a total of 30 times over the course of today.
The operational situation on the VOLYN and POLISSIA fronts remains much the same as before. There is no evidence that Russia is forming new offensive units in this area.
On the SIVERSHCHYNA and SLOBOZHANSHCHYNA fronts, Russian forces deployed mortars and artillery to fire on more than 20 civilian settlements.
On the KUPIANSK front, Russian forces conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of Iziumske (Kharkiv Oblast). Fyholivka, Dvorichna, Zapadne and Kyslivka (Kharkiv Oblast) came under Russian mortar and artillery fire.
On the LYMAN front, Russian forces conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the vicinity of Nadiia (Luhansk Oblast). They conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast). Nevske and Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast), and Torske, Spirne, Berestove and Verkhnokamianske (Donetsk Oblast) were shelled.
On the BAKHMUT front, Ukraine’s Defense Forces successfully repelled Russian assaults to the south of Klishchiivka. Russian forces conducted airstrikes on areas in and around Kurdiumivka, Bila Hora and New-York (Donetsk Oblast). Over 10 settlements came under Russian fire.
On the AVDIIVKA front, Ukraine’s Defence Forces successfully repelled Russian air- and artillery-supported assaults in the vicinity of Avdiivka. Russian forces shelled over 15 civilian settlements.
On the MARINKA front, Ukrainian forces are continuing to hold back Russian forces near Marinka. The Russians shelled more than 10 civilian settlements.
On the SHAKHTARSK front, Russian forces conducted an airstrike near Staromaiorske (Donetsk Oblast) and shelled Vodiane, Vuhledar and Blahodatne.
Russian forces on the ZAPORIZHZHIA and KHERSON fronts are focusing their efforts on preventing Ukrainian forces from advancing. They shelled over 15 civilian settlements.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are continuing to conduct offensive operations on the MELITOPOL and BERDIANSK fronts, where they are consolidating their positions, deploying artillery to take out Russian military targets, and engaging in counter-battery fire.
Over the course of the day, Ukrainian aircraft carried out six airstrikes on areas where Russian military personnel, weapons and equipment were concentrated, one strike on Russian air defense systems and one on a Russian command post.
Units of Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery struck a Russian command post, one cluster of military personnel, five field artillery units, one fuel and lubricant storage point and one electronic warfare system.
Russia launched a surprise offensive along the Northern front in Luhansk, using their infamous Storm-Z assault detachments. By now, they have established a solid bridgehead across the Zerebets river, as Ukraine is urgently sending reinforcements to the 2nd line of defense. Russia’s goal is to push all the way until the Oskol river.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during a meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in the U.S. Congress, said that during Russia’s war against Ukraine, the West must unite to protect the rules-based world order.
This is stated by Censor.NЕТ with reference to Voice of America.
“Many things are changing around us, but there is something that some people did not expect from us. We have clearly proved that the Western world is united and wants to defend the world based on international rules. Because without a world based on international order, we would live in chaos, in which whoever’s army is stronger can attack their neighbor. This is not the world we want to live in. We want to live in a world where we respect sovereignty and freedom,” Meloni said in Washington.
Meloni emphasized that Italy’s ties with the United States have deepened during the time of Russian aggression, a time when allies must rely on each other.
“More than ever, we must rely on each other. Today we had the opportunity to exchange views on many international issues, from the war in Ukraine and its impact on the whole world, especially on food security, to the stabilization and development of the situation in the Mediterranean region, in particular in Africa, in the Indo-Pacific region and the next Italian presidency in the Group of Seven,” the Italian Prime Minister said.
Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and a Republican congressman, called Maloney one of the “most impressive leaders” who, among other things, was able to demonstrate leadership during the war in Ukraine and is building a strategy for the future.
In Washington, Maloney also intends to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House. The agenda of the meeting is to discuss cooperation between the United States and Italy in supporting Ukraine and countering the Russian war.
