Cernovich: "There's No Competitive Primary," DeSantis Campaign Is Faltering

MIKE CERNOVICH: [DeSantis] is maybe the first candidate that became less popular when he ran for office. There was a lot of enthusiasm from people, myself included, with the DeSantis campaign, because we wanted a competitive primary. We wanted a primary, not a coronation.

If you're me, or other people, you're probably pretty frustrated because you see a lot of denial from DeSantis supporters. You see a lot of frustration from them, a lot of rage.

I don’t think this is “new”. What is happening with DeSantis reminds me of what happened with Scott Walker (Gov-R in Wisconsin). He was a very effective Governor and, on paper, should have been a lot more competitive when he ran for President in 2016. However, he was running against Trump and his campaign just when nowhere and he quickly faded in obscurity.

neither can "connect" with voters. That was Hillary's downfall.

Hmmm, don't know what happened to the twitter link.

He says he's been getting a lot of attacks from desantis supporters, some who he calls friends, for saying the desantis campaign is failing

“[DeSantis] is maybe the first candidate that became less popular when he ran for office. “

Also true of Hillary. She was most popular on day one of her campaigns.

“neither can “connect” with voters. That was Hillary’s downfall.”

Also her corruption, health, nastiness, lies, etc. etc. etc.

The Meatball reminds me of Lying Ted and his supporters.
Then Trump kicked Lying Ted’s teeth in.

Desantis was an absolute fool to run this cycle…

His campaign message has to be the worst I have ever seen.

Hey everyone, I’m just like that guy you all really like and want, and who is also running, but I am somehow better, so vote for me…

WTF campaign messaging is that?!?

Desantis has shown himself a fool with this run.. absolutely and completely misread the situation in every level… and now has effectively gone from almost certainly the 2028 gop front runner to never ever having any shot at nationally elected office.

He was a no-brainer for 2028. I was happy for that future.

He does this “also-ran” thing, and it looked incompetent, especially with the failed “book tour,” where no one showed up.

Then he can't get any useful messaging out and looses his initial place to a guy who's parents are both Indian citizens.

He's a nice guy who has always looked like he was in over his head.

Trump gets indicted and it only helps Trump, at Ron's expense.

He's looking as credible as Zelensky, in the gay dance video.

“DeSantis is maybe the first candidate that became less popular when he ran for office.”

One could argue that Jeb could give him a run, but still, DeSantis was popular for good reasons, what he did in Florida, while Jeb was ‘popular’ because his last name rang a bell.

When Rush said Hillary sounded like a screeching ex wife it was game over and Micheal Moore’s reality check was the Cherry on top.

Both Walker and DeSantis had/have messaging problems. Walker was a good governor but didn’t really have any vision for what he wanted to accomplish on the national stage. I always felt his heart wasn’t really in it, and that he ran because it just seemed like the next logical career step for him to take.

DeSantis also has a messaging problem. He’s trying to beat a very popular front runner by adopting most of that front runner’s platform and claiming that he’s just a better version of him. That strategy gives you very little to work with. You can’t attack the front runner too hard or you undercut your claim to being similar to him and you alienate his supporters, which you can’t afford to do. On top of that, he has a past history of supporting Trump which makes any distancing of himself from him now, seem opportunistic.

My sense is that Walker is more trustworthy and principled than DeSantis, but he really had no great interest in becoming president. But aside from that, their campaigns are similar.

I think it remains to be seen if Trump can win another national election. Unfortunately, I suspect the answer is no.

He was able to beat Hillary, but in many ways, he got lucky. Virtually no one expected him to win, which is why the Dem machine was not mobilized the way it was for Biden. Indeed, the Dem machine and the elites pulled out all the stops to ensure Biden won, including unleashing CV-19 (which I still think was NO accident and done for political purposes).

Of course, I am not sure any Republican could win. The Dems learned their lesson from 2016 and will not be asleep at the switch again. Aside from Trump, DeSantis has the best chance.

His campaign is too busy building a war chest with big donors rather than building relationships with voters. They aren’t even trying to go after the traditional, motivated Republican donor. It’s sad to see such a promising young leader being advised so poorly.
