I know folks around here don’t believe me, but that “secrecy” horse, including technical details, left the barn a long time ago.
The Russians have it, the Chinese have it, a bunch of private corporations have it.
The only folks who don’t have it are normal citizens.
They may have weapon system and platforms that the others may not have developed yet, even if they are sifting through the same sort of rubble. Certain details may always need to be protected. Also, some very dangerous weapons might be within reach of a civilian manufacturer. In all cases, our elected officials should know a fair amount of detail in order to fund it and control it and regulate its release to the public. Citizens should be privy to as much as feasible. Most important, everyone should benefit from whatever can be derived from that technology, and everyone should be privy to our place in the cosmos.
