Keeping it secret for eighty years and claiming it is “national security” is absurd on its face.

But we are not talking about keeping the Manhattan project a secret anymore. That cat was out of the bag after the bomb got dropped but the secrecy served it’s purpose during WWII, and it’s VERY difficult to keep research projects a secret. I brought that up as an example.
I am just speaking hypothetically because I would need to see a lot more than the equivalent of enquirer articles to make me believe in extraterrestrials visiting earth, but that’s what is being posited here before congress, so that’s the hypothetical I am addressing. If we are making extreme leaps in technological research due to having “non human” technology to study, then you can’t call it “legacy” until after the secret is out and AFTER we have lost our competitive advantage!
The “secret” is out—but most folks don’t believe it—so I guess it is still “secret”...
