The [leftist] Israeli High Court has veto power over the legislature [Knesset], since the Court can strike down any passed law for being "unreasonable."

The judicial reform intends to remove the Court's unchecked power through a series of six(?) Bills; one step at a time.

The Knesset just passed the first Bill. Bibi signed it.

Ironically, the Court can now strike down this new law that chips away some of its power by declaring it unreasonable.

Israel has no checks & balances among its Gov. branches as we have in the U.S. [on parchment only, since rampant corruption].

Thank you very much for describing this. What a chokehold!

They can try.
But logic says the law goes into force and they no longer have the power to do that.

This is a standoff and one side or the other will blink or it will turn into a coup/civil war.
