Barbie $377mm for the weekend, Oppenheimer $174mm.
Five years ago I saw Greta Gertwig’s low-budget Lady Bird, about a teenage girl on Sacramento. It was marvelous and is the only reason I’m interested in Barbie. That., and my wife wants to go.
Barbie and Ken were a huge part of Toy Story 3.
I also just saw Sound of Freedom this Friday, outstanding, one of the most pewerful movies I have seen and I resisted going and as I though it might be a documentary instead it had a story line that kept you on the edge of yoru seat, disturbing yes, but it was also captivating, Go see it.
One theater was sold out the other we got in packed
That;s an insanely unfair miscategorization based on the skimpiest of anecdotes.
Doing over $350mm in an opening weekend is insane for a non-action hero picture. That indicates a very broad audience, not just some local birdwatchers or Lululemon shoppers.
Summer movies are predominantly escapist fare like Barbie. Releasing Oppenheimer now was a gutsy move which is paying off big.
Sid?
Thx. Will have to check that out.
It’s excellent, as was Ophuls’ earlier doc on Vichy France “The Sorrow and the Pity.”
