Never heard of acid attacks, until I visited the mid-east and south Asia.

I recall hearing they used to occur in the old South, among African American females, as retaliation for taking someone’s man away. The acid used was lye, used in home-made soap making.
They teach them young.
I started hear about acid attacks in the US about 10 or 15 years ago.
Most involved Muslim immigrants or on rare occasions urban dwellers.
It always seemed to me a rather hazardous weapon because of the real possibility that you could end up with it accidentally on you rather than your target.
I can only imagine using a chemical as a weapon of necessity/opportunity
I wonder where the kid originates from. Most disturbed Americans kids would club, stab or shoot their victim.
