One ingredient in the box office success is the expansion of the number of theatres showing it, a response to the nearly sold-out crowds that have shown up. According to this
report, over 450 new theaters featured the film last weekend. These new screens are laying the basis for further growth, if the word-of-mouth continues to be strong, as it likely will.

Its like the Bud-Light effect, in reverse: As media discussion/controversy grows (especially has leftists attack it), people who normally wouldn’t have heard about it, or may not have cared, become interested.

At this rate, it will probably reach $200 million. Could go much higher still.

award shows “movie? what movie? never heard of it”

Keep in mind that all of this box office revenue is domestic. It has already doubled its production and marketing costs.

I do not go to movies much, but I hereby commit to going to see it this weekend as I see it’s playing locally. FRiends, will you commit? And by the way, to hell with Disney. This is the first I heard they originally had the rights. The wicked bastards

I hear ZZ-Top playing ‘Legs’. This films got ‘em. Word of mouth is going to keep this in the theaters for a while.
Theaters are loving this movie. Theaters only make real money if a movie stays more than two weeks, which is when the revenue swings to a more even split with the movie studio. Less than two weeks, the movie studio gets most of the money, and theaters struggle to get by on concession stand revenue.
Wife and I will pick a mid-week matinee to see it.

Major Barbra Streisand effect going on here. If I didn't know better I'd suspect that Rolling Stone and WaPo were actually trying to promote the thing when they bashed it. The movie has insane word-of-mouth promotion, (which is what we're doing here, come to think of it).
They'll clear $100 million on the domestic market by the end of the month - that's a movie that cost $14.5 million. The fact that it was Disney that shelved it makes it oh so much sweeter.

Reminds be of The Passion of Christ box office success, but they won’t figure it out.

Not very well, given the rapturous applause given to Polonsky, Weinstein, etc.

We also have word of demand in other countries that want it to be processed through their legal mechanisms so that it can be shown to them.

Ask every cashier you are at if they have seen it and tell them it’s a great movie and seeing it supports freeing sex slavery of children , and say it loud enough for everyone in line behind you to hear it.
That’s my extra effort.
Gets the word out.
