The article states that part of the disconnect is that conservatives embrace a live and let live attitude, while so-called "liberals" go for the jugular. I agree that's part of the problem.

But part of the problem is that conservatives tend to see things through logic and reason, and thus try to make our points to liberals along those lines. While liberals have been told to shelve logic and reason for their cult-like beliefs and feelings.

Very astute observation. I know that is true in my family. Logic vs emotion is the dividing line. Logic shows it won’t work. Emotions say but in a ‘my perfect world’ it should and besides it makes me feel good.

You can’t argue with emotion because it is deeply personal and not affected by logic or facts.
