Why do liberals and leftists want to continually indoctrinate everyone else, while today’s conservatives tend to adopt a live and let live attitude?
Raising this question to conservative friends, I had no idea that the issue would prompt such intense reactions, including heartfelt expressions about attempts to communicate with family members, relatives, friends, and associates.
Judy S. said: “I’ve tried to discuss politics with a few liberals, including family members whom I love, and their responses always felt like having venom spit at me by an agitated viper. I no longer discuss politics with anyone on the Left. I do, however, give God an earful now and then. This is His show and, free will or not, the leftist movement needs to be handled. If they were exposed to the truth, they’d be aghast. I have a stepdaughter whose jaw drops every time she comes over. Her dad and I fill her in on what’s really going on. She avoids the news like it’s herpes -- but at least she’s honest about it. Her brother is conservative and informed, so we love talking with him -- but his wife is liberal, so we have to pick our moments!”

all they know is they hate their lot in life, and if everyone was as nice as them as they are to everyone else, then the world would be a paradise!.
They cant accept this reality....they are really horrible people inside and if the world was as nice as them as they are to everyone else, it would be a hell hole akin to a jewish ghetto in poland 1942.
they really wont be happy until you're dead. seriously, they want to watch the world as it is.. burn!, they firmly believe that any where but where they are at is a better place. hell nagasaki august 1945 appeals to them!!!
all they know is hate, they hate you, they hate the fact you dont let them control your paycheck ,they hate you for parking close to the store because they should get that spot, they hate you for being in front of them at the wendys drive thru, they hate, hate,hate. you name it, they hate it.

I know several women who, on paper, are pretty conservative, but vote Dem. b/c of abortion.
They are in their 40’s so not real young, and they are married women.
They are just one issue voters.
I also know some pretty liberal Catholics who vote R b/c- Abortion, so it goes both ways.
You've nailed it (for a lot of them). They're emotional because they believe that they're correct. Giving them facts is tantamount to a personal attack, and worse (*gasp*) is suggesting that they have spent their lives supporting destructive policies. A wasted life! Ergo, the histrionics.
One thing for sure, anybody with one of those "Hate Has No Home Here" lawn signs is sure to be an intolerant liberal who will throw you off their porch if you knock on their door as a volunteer for a conservative candidate for office. You will quickly find that hate lives there after all.
You can also be sure that those with the "BLM" yard signs is going to have a college age daughter that lives there and who insisted that her henpecked parents allowed her to stake it into the ground. You can also be sure that the only black people allowed on the property are there to clean the house or do the landscaping. A regular black dude walking through a neighborhood like that is going to have "911" called on him!
When I corner my brother on Dem pols, he always goes to they are all like that. He rarely worked his whole life and it is all the fault of those rich people.
It is not just libs. Some conservatives react with hostility to new information or opinions challenging their current worldview.
At one time here, questioning something GWB did brought immediate hostile reactions. Some commenters on the current Ukraine war respond similarly to those opposing their view. At least over time, many conservatives will alter their view, but a liberal view is largely forever.
The Left can’t discuss intelligently because they’ve grown up not having to. Conservative have to be intellectually strong and agile because they are always being questioned and their ideas denigrated. Leftist can be intellectually lazy because they just go along with the prevailing wisdom as put force by the media. Therefore they are not trained or equipped mentally for strenuous discussion of serious topics. They just parrot what they’ve been told and won’t entertain any thoughts that don’t fit that narrative.
I find the average liberal:
- Narcissistic, sense of self importance and superiority
- Ignorant about many realities yet believe they’re knowledgeable and wise
- Very generous, with other peoples’ money
- Think with their feelings
- Virtue signal constantly to peacock how great they are
- Don’t understand consequences, lack the ability to think things through
They often get hostile because any discussion is going to challenge them with facts. The more irate they are, in their mind, the more justified is their position.
In other words, they’re perpetual juveniles, children that never grew up.
Very astute observation. I know that is true in my family. Logic vs emotion is the dividing line. Logic shows it won’t work. Emotions say but in a ‘my perfect world’ it should and besides it makes me feel good.
You can’t argue with emotion because it is deeply personal and not affected by logic or facts.

They believe what they believe with religious fervor. There is nothing to discuss.
For a conservative to try to change their beliefs would be like a primitive tribe trying to change a Christian missionary beliefs.
In their mind it’s not a question of right or wrong but good vs evil. And guess who the evil ones are?
IMHO, this is why the Dim "news" and "education" industries work emotions to promote their advocacy. People often remember how they feel more than they remember the specifics.
Is it too late? Perhaps. My biggest problem with this relative is that she is surrounded by folks just like her. They believe everything the media tells them, as if it’s the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. She says she’s too busy to go seeking out alternative viewpoints. She wants to be spoon fed with her news. She thinks they’re doing their jobs, and she doesn’t want to do it for them. So she does listen to me, but just as easily disregards it because it’s not often repeated in her world. I can show her the places I get my information from, but she won’t use those on her own. Her default is the mainstream media.
I just keep trucking along though. Maybe one day something will hit home with her how much she is lied to every day.

They look in the mirror and they have dialogue with themselves that is both fiction and pollyannaish serendipity. And they go through the day in a mental lala land that they’ve created and dysfunctionally repeat daily in front of the mirror. They live in a room full of mirrors that only shows themselves and their mind is constructed the same way.

I keep thinking that.... unfortunately, these willfully blind people will wake up some day and realize that they’ve been lied to after decades of them voting ‘for’ the liars. My fear is that by then it will be too late. Our own collective stupidity will have destroyed us.

And in too many families that is the dynamic. The leftist feels perfectly entitled to spew any garbage they want with the expectation they will be listened to. While conservatives know what will happen to the family if they speak the truth and question their leftist relative keeps quiet for the sake of Christmas, Thanksgiving, mom’s birthday, etc. So the Left wins. In our family it is no politics when Leslie is here. Doesn’t stop Leslie.
When I told my DIL she could express any view she wanted as long as she respected my right to do the same, she stopped talking politics rather than afford me the respect to have any opinion different from hers.
Leftist hate reality - the world as it is. Its “unfairness” (inequality) constantly gnaws at their conscience.
So they are out to relieve themselves of that constant torment by embarking on delusional crusades to change reality to make it “fair” and equal.
And they are forever frustrated and angry by their failures because reality doesn’t submit to their delusions.
