Comparing a modern car with EFI and computerized everything to a smog-strangled late 70s car is not a valid comparison. After 1970 big V8 s lost a lot of power due to emissions regulations, and technology was a ways off from regaining the lost ground.
As a comparison, my friend’s moms ‘69 Caprice with a 350 made 300 hp. The ‘77 Impala we had with the same engine made 150 hp.

I didn't get why the author kept trying to compare a '79 T/A to the '23 Challenger.
A modern Honda 4-banger would prob. beat 79 T/A in acceleration and handling.....and fuel efficiency. Different era.
