It says "firearms officer," so I assume these bobbies actually carry guns.
They had actual guns, and an actual out-of-control dog, but they didn't shoot it?

If it’s your dog that is being attacked, you’ll intervene. Or you should not have a dog.
Why save the dog?

That makes sense.
I had to deal with two of my 95 lb dogs spoiling for a fight every night at bed time. They only did so when my wife was home. Last September, my wife went upstairs to our bedroom and a fight broke out in the hallway. I intervened as a 3rd 95 lb dog wanted to "jump in" on the action. It was a bloody scene and my ribs were very bruised. We dealt with the ongoing problem by putting one of the dogs down. It was my favorite of the two. The other was my wife's favorite. Last month, the 3rd dog, a Chocolate Lab was put down because she had a cancerous blowout in her gut. The last of the 95 lb dogs (the ONLY biter) jumped our Chihuahua this morning. I'm ready to send her to the rainbow bridge to prevent any more attacks directed at the smaller dogs.
I always intervened with a metal pole to pry them apart. It worked, but inevitably there were wounds to patch up. My wife rescued the Chihuahua this morning. Off to the vet. Two tooth punctures. Wounds cleaned. Pain meds. We will discuss the disposition of the 95 lb pup at dinner.
Could be tricky shooting a dog on say a paved road or heavily populated area for unknown ricochet.
Wonder if it’s one of those pit bulls advertised as ‘monster bullies’ which, having just checked the monsterbullies website, can weigh 143 pounds.
Walk up. Put the muzzle right up to the pitbull’s skull.
Pull the trigger.
I remember when the Free Republic had numerous pit bull attack stories. Then, such stories stopped. Does this story mean that the pit bull attacks are back?
