To support Ukraine’s further integration into NATO, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Allies agreed on a package of enhanced political and practical support and decided to establish a NATO-Ukraine Council.

This is stated in the final communiqué of the NATO summit, released on Tuesday in Vilnius, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

“Ukraine’s security is of great importance to Allies and the Alliance. To support Ukraine’s further integration into NATO, today we agreed an important package of enhanced political and practical support. We have decided to establish the NATO-Ukraine Council, a new joint body in which Allies and Ukraine sit as equal members to advance political dialogue, engagement, cooperation and Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for NATO membership. It will provide for joint consultations, decision-making and action, and will serve as a mechanism for crisis consultations between NATO and Ukraine,” the document says.

In addition, the Allies emphasized that the priority “remains the continued delivery of urgently needed non-lethal assistance to Ukraine by NATO as part of a comprehensive assistance package,” the communiqué said.

The Allies noted that more than €500 million has been allocated since the Madrid Summit. “In order to support Ukraine’s deterrence and defense in the short, medium and long term, today we agreed to further develop the comprehensive assistance package into a multi-year program for Ukraine. The assistance will help rebuild Ukraine’s security and defense sector and move towards full interoperability with NATO. Allies will continue to fund the program in a sustainable and predictable manner. We welcome and encourage the participation of partners,” they said.
