the great “small” market teams like Cincinnati , Pittsburgh Tampa Bay etc dont stand a chance of keeping star players. The Rays made a ten-year deal with Wander Franco; Cincy should do the same with de la Cruz. But if you have a farm system to die for, your team will always be young and competitive, which is how TB does it.

"Sadly...in a few years, Cincinnati will lose him to one of the same 4 or 5 “richest” teams. True that. However the Reds problem stems not from being in a small market but rather from having cheap skate owners.

With that guy on second, how do you not cover third?
And they teach pitchers in Little League not to turn their back on the runner.

In Woke Baseball, or WoBall, anyone who tries to throw out or receive a thrown ball during a stolen base attempt will be immediately fired from the team because they want to prevent people from getting hurt during the steal.

you could see what De La Cruz was doing...counting the steps the pitcher took on the mound. Looked like the third step he took, and Cruz was GONE!!

I must admit, more and more I’ve gotten into watching Cricket.
I’ve been following The Ashes, the series of Test Matches between Australia and England; once you understand how Cricket works, and the strategy and the players, it hooks you in.

The recent College World Series between LSU and Florida had some amazing players who will be among the first ones drafted by the major league teams. Florida scored more runs but LSU won 2 out of 3 games so won the championship (sort of like Trump winning in the electoral college in 2016 even though Hlllary supposedly had a lot more popular votes).
Today the MLB channel showed the High School All-Star Game, played in the Seattle Mariners' park. The stands were virtually empty (may have been a couple of dozen people total) but some of the players are likely to be offered contracts--although they may be better off playing college baseball before trying to go pro.
Meanwhile, extra-inning games have a player starting on second who made the third out in the previous inning. Someone called that the stupidest rule in sports which may be true. (I don't know all the rules of all the sports.)

Of course I yelling my head off telling her what to do.
She was playing 2nd and caught a popup. The kid on first ran to 2nd and she tagged him out and the kid on 2nd started to run then tried to come back and she tagged him out too.

in the last 5 years or so, the College World Series has become an amazing event. The fan excitement is unreal...the atmosphere. You can tell the players just love it...good stuff.
