Drones might work for small end-user deliveries, but not for the big deliveries a semi drives.
They’re also terrible on energy efficiency compared to the truck. It’s not just moving a load from A to B, it’s generating enough lift to carry that load that distance.
There’s a reason intercontinental trade uses shipping and not FedEx Air. Much cheaper to move more stuff.
I didn’t state specifically, but I have been thinking drones would provide the last mile delivery. Might fly to you in dense places or be driverless drone wheeled vehicles.
The Amazon driver is the only Amazon employee that ever physically handles many things they sell. Won’t be long until orders arrive by drone - winged, wheeled or other. Drivers will be used to train the AI and there might be an interim step of remote robo assist by humans like many of our military drones today, but it won’t be long until Alexa can tell you when your drone arrives with your package.
