I don't need a reason to hate EVs - It comes naturally, but if they need tax revenues (that absolutely won't be used for road repair, but rather will be sent to ukraine) then why not just charge extra (get it?) at the public and commercial charging stations? Eliminate all the free charging stations and put a card swipe on them. And remove the IRS $7,500 tax credit on the purchase of EVs.

Sure, there's probably a dozen different ways to solve the tax problem. But it isn't about tax, it's about control of the free market and freedom of the people..

The government won’t care if costs 50x to collect the tax if it accomplishes the goal of making ICEs and free movement gradually unaffordable to most people.

that will drive rveryone back to gas powered cars, defeating the very purpose of forcing electric cars on the citizens. limiting the distances you can drive makes it easier to control the people.
