I remember when Montgomery Wards went out i was sad. When I was a kid we shopped there a lot. Then they demolished the huge building in Oakland we always went to, “big Wards” as I called it.
I loved looking at the catalogs from Wards, Sears and Penny’s.
Most shipping probably by Yellow Freight. Those were the days!

i worked for wards in the late 60s early 70s(with 2 years out for the service)

worked nights...from the downtown wards building...
I watched the west side of chicago go up in flames after MLK got shot.
Then later that year watched the yahoo hippies get chased by the cops during the 68 RAT convention.(which was miles away from grant park)
