New revelations about the armed uprising by the Wagner Group in Russia. The Moscow Times is reporting that the deputy chief of staff of Russia’s armed forces has been arrested. The paper says General Sergei Surovikin is being held on suspicion of being involved in Yevgeny Prigozhin’s rebellion. The New York Times has also claimed that a senior Russian general had advance knowledge of Prigozhin’s plans. The Kremlin denies the allegations and maintains military commanders are united behind President Vladimir Putin.

A top Russian general who reportedly had advanced knowledge of the Wagner rebellion has not been seen since the armed mutiny unfolded on Saturday. Sergei Surovikin is second-in-command of the Russian army and has known links to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin. Defence and security analyst Michael Clarke stressed that General Surovikin “must be having a fairly difficult time” adding that Russia’s deputy security council chief Dmitry Medvedev has also not been since Saturday.

Czechia promises more military equipment for Ukraine
Ukrainska Pravda
Updated Tue, June 27, 2023 at 2:08 PM EDT·

Czech Defence Minister Jana Černohová has stated that the Czech army still has some equipment in its stocks that could be provided to Ukraine.

SOURCE: Černohová during a press conference attended by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, as reported by European Pravda, citing Ceske Noviny.

DETAILS: “We still have options from the army’s supplies,” Černohová said, as quoted by Reuters.
Černohová also pointed out that her country’s army will take into account the lessons learned from the war in Ukraine when making purchases and developing its defence strategy, which the Czech Ministry of Defence plans to complete by September 2023.

Petr Fiala, meanwhile, said that from January to May 2023, Czechia provided Ukraine with 24 tanks, 76 infantry fighting vehicles and 645 anti-tank guided missiles, 16 special vehicles for air defence systems, 57,000 pieces of ammunition for guns and howitzers, and 144 anti-aircraft guns.

Additionally, Ukraine has received other military assets, equipment, spare parts and fuel, as well as radiation, chemical and biological protective equipment.

Fiala noted that the Czech government has also negotiated the supply of hundreds of additional heavy military vehicles under licence or in cooperation with foreign partners.
BACKGROUND: Earlier, it was reported that Czechia plans to provide Ukraine with military aid worth roughly US$25-29 million, mostly equipment from storage facilities that has not been used by the Czech army.

In February, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that the value of the government’s military assistance to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion had reached CZK 10 billion (€422 million), and the Czech defence industry had sent weapons worth a further CZK 30 billion (€1.27 billion).

“Putin referenced 1917 quite a lot. But when I look at 1917, a corrupt kleptocracy, rather like the one that’s there now, was part of the reason that people left the battlefield.” Ukraine is making ‘steady incremental gains’ in the aftermath of the Wagner mutiny, says Maj. Gen. Chapman.

With all of this going on inside Russia, Ukrainian forces are trying to find momentum for their recently launched counter-offensive. Despite the deliveries of Western military equipment, Ukraine’s territorial gains have so far only been modest, against what appear to be well-entrenched Russian defenses. For now at least, it seems the turmoil in Moscow has not had an impact on the battlefield. How can Ukraine use the chaos in Moscow to its advantage?

Iryna Balachuk

https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/06/28/7409002/

The Ukrainian Defence Forces have managed to seize the strategic initiative at the front and have been pushing forward, said Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), during a telephone conversation with Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley.

SOURCE: Zaluzhnyi on Telegram

QUOTE: “We discussed the situation at the frontline. We have managed to seize the strategic initiative, the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine continue to conduct offensive operations, and we are making progress.
The enemy is putting up a strong fight while suffering heavy losses. They are trying to hold on to their positions through massive mining of the area.”

DETAILS: Zaluzhnyi also briefed Milley on the current needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for weapons, ammunition and mine clearance equipment and thanked him for the military aid package announced by the United States earlier.
“We agreed to stay in touch and coordinate actions to ensure the liberation of Ukrainian territory,” the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU concluded.

The US gives another $500 million specifically in military aid today to the Ukies, no doubt because of their massive losses in their grand offensive. Countless video confirmation abounds, but not on western media.

The US public is being misinformed, and deceived. Please, don’t get sucked in, the collective West it appears is making good on their promise to destroy Ukraine “ down to the the last Ukrainian “. Sickening.

First General Mizintsev moves over to Wagner, now Surovikin is allegedly arrested for knowing of the mutiny in advance. Both are two of the more aggressive and capable Russian generals. Putin keeps this up the more competent leadership in the Russian military will have more loyalty to Prigozhin than Putin.

Around for 25 years on this forum… There’s been at least 10 to 15 subjects that keep me around here… They’ve depleted over the last eight years or so including North Korea, where we used to have really good, adult, professional deep discussions and intelligent analysis for paragraphs on end like your material, instead of stupid one-liners devoid of content blindly praising or turning a blind eye to horrifics like Kim Jong-un…well, you know why….. it’s certainly not Reagan conservatism … Truth be told your great reporting is about the only reason I’m still here or check him once in awhile

Ukraine’s Defense Minister reveals reserves at the front not yet mobilised, and there are undisclosed successes
Olena Roshchina
Wednesday, 28 June 2023, 10:36
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/06/28/7408877/

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has dismissed doubts about the success of the summer counteroffensive and has hinted that the recent modest achievements are only a preview of a much larger offensive.

SOURCE: Oleksii Reznikov in an interview with Financial Times

DETAILS: Reznikov stated that the liberation of a group of villages in recent weeks was “not the main event” in Kyiv’s planned offensive.

QUOTE: “When it happens, you will all see it... Everyone will see everything,” he said, brushing aside media coverage of slow progress against well-fortified Russian positions.
The minister confirmed that Ukraine’s main troop reserves, including most of the brigades recently trained in the West and equipped with modern NATO tanks and armoured vehicles, have yet to be used in the operation.

Reznikov said that the Ukrainian army continues to inflict heavy losses on the Russian troops, their “degradation” is a tool, and the liberation of Ukrainian lands is the goal.
The Minister of Defence stated that Ukrainian troops have achieved “certain successes” that the General Staff is not disclosing in order not to endanger the troops.

QUOTE: “Sometimes Russians do not report to their leadership that they have lost a certain area or territory. They are afraid to report further to their leadership.”

DETAILS: At the same time, Reznikov warned that this operation will contrast with last year’s stunning defeat of Russian troops in the cities of Kyiv and Kherson and in Kharkiv Oblast.

QUOTE: “You can’t expect a miracle in every operation,” he said.

The FT notes that Ukrainian troops are now “probing” Russian defence lines and attacking at multiple points to keep Russia guessing as to where the main offensive will be.
On 27 June, UK Defence Minister Ben Wallace announced that Ukraine had won back about 300 square kilometres from Russia as a result of the counteroffensive. This is twice as much as Kyiv officially announced.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that progress at the front is “slower than he would like”.
