I’ve flown on quite a few of those. They are old McDonnell Douglas MD-95’s (DC-9 family). Basically, the greyhound bus of the air.

I once landed in a smaller commuter plane without front landing gear... It was exactly as you’d expect: rear gear down, front... down... down, BUMP! Then skiddddd.... Had my 1 yo daughter on my lap: she didn’t even wake up.

This fine piece of journalism clears everything up...
Upon landing, the plane suffered a malfunction on its front landing gear. Delta’s crew had to land the aircraft without the landing gear.
