It is NOT the US..

In most other places, voluntarily doing stupid crap is the fault of the person doing stupid crap.

Hurting yourself, while doing stupid crap, is generally considered the fault of the do-er.

Not the place where it was done.

A long time ago. before the lawyers took over, the US generally faulted the do-er of stupid stuff. not the venue. Or, society as a whole.

Most states still have dram shop laws and enforce them. Only 8 U.S. states do not have them. Some states even apply them to personal hosts that serve alcoholic beverages to their guests. In 42 U.S. states bar tenders and businesses are indeed liable and they know it.
