Of course it’s not a myth that Bush lost. That’s history.
Whether Perot caused that loss is highly debatable. Bush was a terrible, unattractive deep-state candidate with a history of lying, Slick Willy was an oversexed slimeball, but he was a master of the political game. The country was looking for a change.
The 1992 Perot circus bumped up the popular vote by 12 million, many of whom would never have voted otherwise. The vote in 1996 dropped by 8 million.
Bush and Clinton were two sides of the same counterfeit coin.
But if it makes you feel better to put all the blame on Perot, go for it.
I voted for Perot in both 1992 and 1996, and I’m proud of it.
