The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has quietly published an overdue overstay report showing that more than 850,000 [LEGAL] foreign visitors overstayed their authorized stay in FY2022, which is probably a record high. The total overstay rate for 2022 was 3.64 percent, which is more than double the rate of recent years [stayed past their visa mandatory exit date].

The only people who try to sneak across the border are the people who cannot obtain a lawful visa.
Most people who are refused a visa cannot prove they have the financial resources to visit here, or they have a criminal record, or a previous deportation, or they are on a terrorist or gang member Watch List.
Many of the women and children who sneak across the border could get lawful visas.
Usually, they have a male companion who cannot get a visa.
America needs an Operation Wetback on steroids.
Well golly gee....maybe we needs ta sets us up some ah them thar checkpoints somewheres and ask for papers er sumtin thats proovin yous belongs here or sumptin? Geets thats many ah foriegnors ands we may haff ta do sumthin bout it? Comprenday? In other words: Flood the Republic and theen enact a Intra nation system of checkpoints? Not that far fetched from a Republic gone rogue.
America is running on Out of Control Mode right now. We have no grownups running this chicken coop. A freak show government is all the RATS gave us.
