A San Diego man claims he was ambushed and set on fire by a group of 'hate-filled' attackers after leaving a restaurant.

Scott Rowin, 39, said he was attacked while walking through the city's Hillcrest neighborhood on June 18 as he was leaving a local restaurant.

Rowin told ABC 10 that two attackers shouted 'f**got' at him prior to rushing up and dousing him with a liquid that had the consistency of water.

'Immediately after that, I went up like coals on a barbecue. It started off really big,' said the man who sustained serious burns in the incident.

He said he believes the attack - which took place in the neighborhood commonly referred to as San Diego's 'Gayborhood' - was targeted and is warning others.

'Nobody walks around with flammable liquid like without an agenda. In my opinion, they were obliviously out there targeting the LGBT community,' he said.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego police are investigating what they described as a “complex case” after receiving reports that during an alleged assault by a man on a pregnant woman in the Gaslamp Quarter last week, the woman set the man on fire. Investigators also said they were looking into whether the incident was a hate crime, and what, if any, other crimes were committed, police Lt. Adam Sharki said in a news release Wednesday.
