That's how I remember him too, in A Room with a View... great movie, great actors all, and he was indeed a beautiful young man. So earnest yet so funny at the same time. He has certainly made a mysterious and dramatic exit from this world.

It was one of the top movies of my lifetime. Not only a top-tier cast—Helena Bonham Carter, Daniel Day-Lewis, Maggie Smith and Denholm Elliott as well as Julian Sands; but also great directors, an extraordinarily beautiful setting, and a masterpiece of English literature as the basis for the script.

It is indeed sad that Sands died alone, away from family and rescue. According to the DailyMail article, he was an avid climber, so at least he was doing what he loved.

I would class A Room with a View up there with Zefferelli's Romeo and Juliet and the 1988 Dangerous Liaisons in terms of artistry, longevity, and impact for me, personally.
