.
I was five.
My parents were watching it on TV - and trying to keep me awake.
But I was asleep on the couch when it happened at 10:56:20 p.m. eastern time.
I turned 8 the next day. I considered it My Birthday present from NASA. We had just moved to Houston from Old Bridge, NJ at the beginning of July. Talk about climate change !!! It was 100°F the day we were unloading the moving truck. I asked Dad when we were going home ? He replied “this is home.”
Mom and I got to watch the LM lifting off the Moon on a color TV at the neighbors house. I still remember all the different colors of the moon dust from the rocket exhaust flying towards the camera.
I was 8 in 1969. My sister and my cousins were playing outside when my uncle came running out of the house yelling at us that we needed to get in the house to watch the moon landing. I had no idea why it was so important. He was an USAF officer and he knew.
