I was trying to find the “Sheriff Paper” cartoon (that may not be quite it, but anyway), this is not really anything related, but, hey, otherwise I’ve got nothin’.

That is a fact. Each ethnic group had their own language and the languages of man tribes were all based on known {European} tongues. Hobbits spoke a language based in Middle English and the Rohirrim spoke based on the older Anglo Saxon, so they had some commonalities that each understood. Of course the dwarves were not 'men', maybe that is why Tolkien moved to the eastern far north and the Eddas.
Gandalf means 'Wand Elf' even though he was not an Elf. I forget why Tolkien decided to do that. In Elvish he was named Mithrandir - the Gray Pilgrim.
It was quite a linguistic exercise to write the Dictionary, took a few years. Of course the Elven tongues were of his own making - and they evolved over the years, adding some extra challenge. Tolkien started writing his 'Tales' around WWI and time changes things.
He makes really good flour .
My cinnamon rolls are better with it.
“Olorin I was in my youth in the West, that none now remember.” Or words to that effect. :^)

“It’s interesting to see other characters added to the Arthur legend as time passes.”
I told bedtime stories for my kids about King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. Other characters that I added over the years were Superman, Batman, Cinderella, Bigfoot....
Tolkien's heroes were often more counter heroes: Hobbits (Halflings) who enjoyed their pipe weed, a mug of ale - and NO adventures; Gandalf, the reluctant interventionist who took on a Balrog, an ancient fire demon of Morgoth from the First Age.
“Go back, Flame of Udun.”
My favorite moment in the entire trilogy is Gandalf’s stand at the broken gate of Minas Tirith, he faces down the King of the Ringwraiths, then the cock crows as Sauron’s darkness starts to fail, then the horns of Rohan...
Udun - Hell... lots of that evident today. 😒
the period of transition from romano-british rule to conquest by various saxon groups is definitely hard to nail down. what I recall that we have some level of documentary or archaeological indication of is that a kingdom in.around cumbria (thus the name), wales, and cornwales were all that ultimately survived of the p=celtic peoples in the roman areas. (the picts are another matter).
obvious there was some gradual (or not) process of the rest of what would be england getting assimilated/conquered by germanic tribes, and surely there was time for a few battles to be won, buying time (perhaps years or decades) for an area.
i wish we knew more.
The next King Arthur movie will portray him as black and his knights will all be as well......................
Gotta give credit to that cartoonist. Talk about being able to extrapolate a concept!
As I'm coming around this morning, I really have to laugh at the integration and timing of the seemingly unrelated topics that appeared ahead of my morning arrival to FR:
Cat Woman... the "tora" is a cat, a tiger (虎).
I was listening to the Highwayman concert from the Mirage in Vegas. And it again occurred to me that Waylon must surely have been in present at Sinai, because "hear" was his important wedding song, starting at ~ min 6:13.
He knew the real deal! The song reveals this. Just ahead of the song, he even asks the audience if they'd been looking for Sigfried and "Leroy". See, now by jokingly changing the one name slightly, he got everyone's attention.
"They ain't here, it's tiger-breeding time.."
Well anyway, it's pretty obvious that the Torah is the ultimate Country song. It's got all of the elements, over and over. Yet... people just aren't prepared!
King Arthur: What Everybody Gets WrongBethlehem = "house of bread". Where else would anyone expect to find King Arthur?!
It was a picture-perfect wedding
We had the whole world at our feet...
He wasn’t black! Hell ,even Tarzan was white. King of their jungle.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Plus, hey, cinnamon rolls!
Well, I’m about to blow Ezekiel away. (or keep him her? they?) tied up for hours. There is a midrash (Jewish 1st and 2nd century commentary) on the Hebrew Bible, that says Moses’ staff was lodged in the ground, and the one who would lead the Jews would be able to pull it out.
So OBVIOUSLY King Arthur was written by the Mel Brooks of his time.
Ezekiel I don’t have time to cut/paste but if you search “pull” in this link you’ll find the references— and more on the creation of Moses’ staff in Jewish tradition.
https://www.betemunah.org/staff.html
And with that-— I’ll bravely run away.
(He bravely ran away! When danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled..... )
