A buddy had a 65 CH and let me swap for my car on weekend liberty now and then. Yeah, manipulating the spark retard and all for kick starting was to be learned.
The wimpy brakes and non-return throttle were creepy. My early 1000cc still had that crappy drum front brake.
Faded so bad I went right through an intersection once.

The early Sportsters required that you pay attention when riding them. Having the shifter on the right and the foot brake on the left didn’t help either.
