My dad taught me all sorts of “life skills” that I had no interest in learning and some that were a bit disgusting to me (like how to replace a toilet, first scraping up all the encrusted remnants of the old wax sealant ring... that was fun). Nobody every said he was the “a hole” or sympathized with my plight.

Suck it up. Life only gets harder when you’re on your own and have to do every dirty job yourself.

I watched my Dad replace the wax seal for a toilet, later I did it myself. I tried to teach my two daughters to do things (not the toilet) like yard work, but I ended up doing everything myself. My younger daughter almost ruined the engine in her car by running it almost totally out of oil- I showed her how to check her oil and where to put it in, and instead of catching on, I slowly watched her eyes glaze over. I put the oil in myself and checked it thereafter. Better than letting her ruin her engine🙄.At least the older one likes to learn new things and be a little more self-sufficient…
