Why not? A doctor or a nurse would know exactly what to do to keep a body alive (but unconscious) while removing the organs. And remember that, this occurred over 25 years ago, when DNA id was still relatively new. the culprit(s) weren't thinking of DNA evidence at the time, but knew how to get rid of any other means of id-ing the victim.
